Newcomer Jonathan Woods helms the direct-to-video comedy drama Love Shorts, Vol. 1. As scripted by Ytasha L. Womack (The Engagement: My Phamily BBQ 2), this eighty-one minute episode film - which charts the romantic ups and downs of a series of African American characters - resembles something of a cross between Love, American Style and Waiting to Exhale. It contains eight short sequences of around ten minutes each, all woven around questioning the reliability of romantic love. The individual stories involve: -a nymphomaniac who sleeps with a series of losers and refuses to leave the bedroom, -a young woman's incredulity in the face of "the perfect man," -a boyfriend who confesses undying love for his ex-girlfriend - in the middle of lovemaking, and five more. The ensemble cast includes: Womack, Kimm Beavers, Lionel Gentle and Gisla Stringer.
