Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This now-obscure German fantasy is the story of a brilliant violinist by the name of Sebaldus (played by Paul Wegener). In love with the beautiful Babby, Sebaldus is afraid to declare his ardor because of his homeliness. To win the girl's love, Sebaldus enters into an unholy arrangement with "shadow man" Daperutto. In exchange for his own shadow, Sebaldus will receive the undying adoration of Babby. What our hero hadn't counted on was Babby's terrified reaction when she realized that Sebaldus no longer cast a shadow on the ground. Assumed to be possessed by Satan, Sebaldus is driven out of town, while the disconsolate Babby enters a convent. But Sebaldus wins back his lady love by playing an irresistible tune on his "magic" violin.
