synopsis
Written by Arthur Miller as an allegory for the McCarthyism rampant at the time of his writing, this is the story of the Salem witch trials of the 1600s and how the jealousy and mental chaos of a young girl caused the deaths of innocent people. The real historical point of interest, however, is in the fact that the movie had to be made in France because, at the time of its making, Arthur Miller had been listed on McCarthy's infamous "list" and was blackballed from any production in Hollywood.
