A young amputee turns her attention to the needs of the terminally ill in this drama from director Sophie Deraspe. Simone (Marie-Helene Bellavance) is a woman from Quebec who has enrolled as a student at Harvard University, She briefly returns home, and learns all too late that her grandmother has died in a nearby hospital. Simone has a sudden change of heart about her choices in life, and rather than return to college, she decides to stay in Quebec for a time and do volunteer work at the hospice where her grandmother died. But what at first seems like concern begins to turn into an obsession; Simone turns away from her boyfriend Boris (Francis Ducharme) and spends nearly all her time at the hospital for the dying, refusing to leave the side of her charges as long as they can still draw breath. Les Signes Vitaux (aka Vital Signs) was an official selection at the 2009 Rotterdam Film Festival.
