Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
The struggles of four women battling sexism in a small Indian town is the focus of this tragedy, which is based on true events. Pavarthi's husband is angry because her father has refused to pay her dowry. He therefore mistreats his young bride until she commits suicide. Her friends rally together to protest the treatment and harassment of village women. They meet with great opposition from parents and neighbors. Their reputations are viciously destroyed after they publicly accuse a local politician of sexual harassment. They do not meet with a happy ending.
