Synopsis by Alice Day
The Chumash Indians were the first settlers of the area now known as California. Land of the Eagle Vol. 8: "Searching for Paradise" traces the development of the Golden State, whose ample resources were a magnet for those in search of gold and other riches. Separated from the rest of the nation by long stretches of inhospitable desert and huge mountain ranges, California has drawn developers throughout its history, resulting in environmental changes with far ranging effects. Modern times have seen a depletion in resources and a movement to conserve what is left.
