Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Inspired by 18th century Rococo artist Antoine Watteau's painting "Embarkation for Cythera," director Péter Mészáros' timeless relationship drama is about a couple who choose a passionless relationship over the prospect of being alone. Rotund sloth Bandi spends the majority of his time eating, watching soccer, or both. Though Bandi's girlfriend, Csilla, longs to share a happy future with her layabout lover, his interminable inertia finds her longing to take a holiday on the picturesque Greek isle of Kythera. Perhaps a brief escape from their everyday routine is all that this couple needs, but how will they ever find out if Bandi refuses to get up off of the couch? While Bandi and Csilla's life has become as predictable as the passing day, an unexpected pregnancy throws a serious wrench into the pair's regular routine.
