synopsis
By conservative estimate, Edvin Laine must have directed and/or starred in every other Finnish film produced between 1945 in 1947. The prolific Laine is well represented by this 1947 entry, the title of which translates as Light Melody. Set against an operatic background, the romantic plotline is enhanced by the melodies of Georges Bizet, with newer arrangements by Finland's Heikki Aaltoila. Kalle Ruusenen, famed Finnish opera star, makes his screen debut, harmoniously cast opposite leading lady Doris Hovimas. Like most Finnish films of the era, Kirkastuva Savel did only moderate business outside its home country.
