Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
When he is thrown off the train at a remote country station for failing to be able to show his ticket, and for having suspiciously poor personal documents, the young man in this story little suspects the rawness of the future which awaits him. Forced to stay at the station house overnight while his case is being debated, he discovers that the stationmaster is curiously inattentive, despite the fact that he seems to be up to some underhanded schemes. The stationmaster is not so inattentive as to fail to observe the boy's probing questions and resolves to send him on down the line as soon as possible.
