Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Originally aired in the United States on PBS, playwright Julian Mitchell's BAFTA-award-winning television mini-series tells the remarkable life story of Jennie Churchill (Lee Remick), the American woman who married Lord Randolph Churchill (Ronald Pickup) and went on to become the mother of revered British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Warren Clarke). Jennie Churchill was just 19 when she first met Lord Randolph Churchill, and the couple was married shortly thereafter. Later, after giving birth to Winston, Jennie experienced hardship and exile before watching her husband die and remarrying twice to suitors who were the same age or younger as her son. Christopher Cazenove, Siân Phillips, and Jeremy Brett co-star.
