Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

Jacques Mesrine was a gangster who participated in robberies, kidnappings, and murders in his early criminal career and later became number one on France's Most Wanted list. This documentary details his personality and aspects of his life through interviews with cellmates, lawyers, hostages, judges, female companions, and family. Although clearly associated with murder and inhuman behavior, Mesrine was controversial because he also spoke out against the inhuman High Security Quarters for prisoners, and was endowed with enough charisma and daring to capture the imagination of the public and the press. His notoriety in France and his contradictory actions and traits make him the ideal subject for a documentary of this type.
