Island of Doomed Men (1940)
by Hans J. Wollstein review

It has been seen all before -- and sometimes better -- but Island of Doomed Men deserves more recognition today due to the performances of its star trio: Peter Lorre, soft-spoken, nearly apologetic, but thoroughly sadistic; Rochelle Hudson, a Wampas Baby Star, but one with an edge; and Robert Wilcox, an unfairly forgotten actor, who, like his wife, Diana Barrymore, lost it all to alcoholism. Island of Doomed Men was reportedly made for little more than 90,000 dollars, but the stellar cast makes one forget the less-than-posh surroundings.
