synopsis
This stage production from 1982 finds the legendary Bolshoi Opera interpreting the last of Pyotr Illych Tchaikovsky's operas, the 1892 Iolanta. The gentle and poignant work tells of the title character, daughter of King René, and her process of overcoming blindness via the love of the impassioned Count Vaudémont. This particular version stars Galina Kalinina as Iolanta, Artur Eisen as the regent, and Lev Kuznetsov as Vaudémont. The Orchestra and Chorus of the Bolshoi Theater lend musical accompaniment under the baton of maestro Ruyben Vardanian.
