Synopsis by Nathan Southern

The Teatro Carlo Felice mounted this 2009 production of Gioachino Rossini's 1814 opera Il Turco in Italia (The Turk in Italy). The comedic work tells of the Turkish Selim and a series of romantic entanglements that befall him when he travels to Italy and grows intoxicated by Don Geronio's wife, Fiorilla - to the consternation of Selim's own fiancée, Zaida. This particular version stars Simone Alaimo as Selim, Myrtò Papatanasiu as Fiorilla, Bruno de Simone as Geronio and Antonella Nappa as Zaida. Egisto Marcucci directs for the stage, Emanuele Luzzati designed the sets, Santuzza Calì did the costumes, and the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Carlo Felice, under the baton of Jonathan Webb, provide musical accompaniment.
