Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Clifton Ko Chi-sum spins this romantic comedy loosely based on the 1978 Alan Alda vehicle Same Time, Next Year. The film opens in the early '60s when complete strangers So Yau-shing (Tong Leung Kar-fai) and Cheung Wai-sum (Anita Yuen Wing-yee) are forced to stay the night together in a remote house due to bad weather. Even though Yau-shing is married and Wai-sum is engaged, the two hook up during the night and after vow to meet in the same place, on the same day, next year. Fast forward to 1973 when their illicit affair is interrupted by a burglar; 1978 when Wai-sum shows up pregnant and subsequently goes into labor; 1984 when Yau-shing's spouse makes a surprise visit; 1987 when, thanks to the stock crash, Wai-sum's financial solvency and marriage is in doubt; and lastly in 1994, when both lovers find themselves at a crossroad in life.
