Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
This Taiwanese war drama takes a look back at the Sino-Japanese war. It reflects the reminiscences of Inegawa, an elderly former Japanese soldier who in 1990, returns to China to honor the Chinese who died during the second world war. The story is narrated by his grandson. In 1939, Inegawa was a lieutenant who captured a Chinese soldier T'ien Shih. He locks him up with Uncle Ch'uan. In time Inegawa begins to respect his prisoner. He tells T'ien that if he admits that he is a spy, he will let him live. Inoue, Inegawa's superior officer is morally bankrupt and power mad. He ends up raping both T'ien and Inegawa's girlfriend.
