Synopsis
Chronicling the controversy surrounding one Arkansas town's decision to integrate its schools in 1955. "We thought it was the right thing to do," says School Board member Howard Vance. And it went smoothly at first. But then an article about Hoxie appears in Life magazine, and "it stirred up the entire South," Vance recalls. Joining Vance are lawyers and politicians on both sides of the issue, as well as Hoxie residents who lived through it. Remembers one black student: "The black kids and white kids got along fine. We were all just kids." Julian Bond narrates.
