The burning down of an entire village set on the old Mack Sennett back lot remains the highlight of this otherwise tepid crime melodrama from Poverty Row mogul Walter Futter. Everything in this film happens exactly as you expect it to happen and apart from the one spectacular sequence, any enjoyment depends on the viewer's tolerance of Warren Hymer, a "dumb jock" type whose antics have not survived the test of time. The beautiful German actress Wera Engels, who had replaced an ailing Molly O'Day shortly before production commenced, is once again wasted in a thankless role, and leading man Tom Keened always looked better in a Stetson. According to some reports, location filming in Los Angeles' Chinatown was halted when the company got itself embroiled in a real-life Tong war involving one of the Chinese extras.
