First-time writer/director/producer Christopher Livingston delivers a brightly polished gem in this superbly written, deftly directed, and perfectly acted comedy of a mismatched couple. There's nothing obvious as Livingston unspools his tightly woven, delightfully textured tale, and the story turns in unexpected directions, and with refreshingly unexpected results. Sharp dialogue and honest insights run rampant in this intelligently subtle, gently funny romantic, yes, romantic comedy. Hit and Runway, set in Greenwich Village, remarkably captures the charm and spirit of early Woody Allen and should appeal to a wide audience -- gay and straight -- looking for heartfelt adult comedy. True, it's not a high-budget, high-profile production with known names, but its smallness works in its favor.
