synopsis
This documentary traces how the organ developed into the musical instrument we know today. The filmmakers begin with the birth of the instrument in the 1800's, and showcase how the culture of countries like France and Switzerland slowly altered the organ over time. The program features performances by some of the most acclaimed organists of their day including Louis Robilliard and Marie-Claire Alain, as well as music from some of the composers who best understood the intricacies of the instrument including Giuseppe Gherardeschi and Charles-Marie Widor.
