Synopsis by Hal Erickson
So you thought that 1996's The Truth About Cats and Dogs had an original plot? Try the 1919 British romantic comedy Her Lonely Soldier on for size. Set during World War I, the film involves a spinsterish young lady who, while corresponding with a soldier, sends the boy a picture of her pretty sister, passing off the photo as her own. Sure enough, the soldier shows up, assuming that the good-looking sister is actually the plain-Jane one. But everything turns out okay: it seems that the soldier had pulled the same trick on the ladies, sending them a photo of his handsome buddy. A double wedding ensues, and a good time is had by all.
