Synopsis by Hal Erickson

While working on a major construction project in the Wild West, contractor Bill Naughton (J. Barney Sherry) assigns his Eastern-bred son Donald (Jack Livingston) to supervise the project. With his effete mannerisms and fancy-dan clothing, Donald is quickly labelled a "dude" by the local cowpokes. But Donald eventually proves that he's every bit as tough and resourceful as any Westerner, thereby winning the respect of his father and the love of heroine Sheila Dolan (Margery Wilson). Another Douglas Fairbanks Sr. picture minus Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Hard Rock Breed was as predictable as a five-year calendar. Fortunately, it was an exciting piece of filmmaking, which in 1918 was far more important than originality.
