Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Thomas Balmes' documentary Happiness follows an eight-year-old boy in Bhutan as his rural village becomes wired for 21st century technology like cable TV and the internet as part of a plan by that country's president to create the "gross national happiness" his citizens deserve. The filmmakers use this as a jumping off point to explore how technology affects us in ways both positive and negative. Happiness screened at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
