Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur
Lativan filmmaker Una Celma directs the drama Sauja Lozu (Handful of Bullets). After growing up out in the country, teenaged Ivars (Janis Murnieks) seeks the big city life in Riga with his uncle Fredis (Harijs Spanovskis). He needs to make enough money to send home to his poor mother and siblings. However, it turns out that Fredis was all talk and Ivars ends up selling newspapers on the street and living in an abandoned factory. Both men are changed forever after meeting Liene (Kristine Nevarauska), the prostitute with the heart of gold who teaches them how to adapt to the free market economy. Handful of Bullets was shown at the 2003 Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
