Synopsis by Janiss Garza
In this small town drama, Dan Chamberlain (Edward Earle) and Squire Evans (Bigelow Cooper) are running against each other for the office of district attorney. They are also both suitors of Betty Hazelton (Bessie Learn). But Evans and Hiram Gregory (John Sturgeon) have swindled Betty's father (William Wadsworth) out of his grist mill, and she will have nothing to do with Evans. When Gregory is found murdered, Mr. Hazelton is believed guilty. Both Betty and Chamberlain believe he is innocent, but before they can put together a defense, Chamberlain is elected district attorney and finds himself in the uncomfortable position of prosecuting him. Abner, a farm hand (Ford Fennimore), has been taking a correspondence course on how to be a detective, and through his help, Evans is found guilty of the killing. Evans has a stroke of apoplexy and dies, Chamberlain marries Betty, and Abner wins his sweetheart, Sally (Jessie Stevens).
