Hamlet on AllMovie

This dry rendition of the Shakespeare classic is sometimes plagued by uneven vocal projection or audio difficulties. Nicol Williamson plays the Danish ruler doomed to tragedy by political intrigue and his lust for power. Anthony Hopkins plays Claudius, the monarch who mudered Hamlet's father to seize the throne. British pop singer Mariiane Faithfull takes the role of Ophelia. Gordon Jackson reprises his excellent Braodway portrayal of Horatio. This would rate as somewhere in the middle of the six version of Hamlet produced between 1948 to 1976 and the one with the fastest pace for the acting and direction overall.
