In parts of England, it used to be a custom that when an unmarried girl's younger sister marries, she must wear green stockings. Thus begins the premise of this comedy, based on a play by A.E.W. Mason. Celia Faraday (Lillian Walker) has already suffered through this tradition once, at the wedding of her sister Madge (Lillian Burns), but when the youngest Faraday, Phyllis (Adele De Garde), announces that she's getting married, Celia refuses to go through it again. So she says that she's engaged to a Colonel Smith. There is no Colonel Smith, however -- at least, that's what Celia thinks. She makes him up, but a real Colonel Smith (Denton Vane) appears on the scene, and after a number of farcical situations, he and Celia really do become engaged.
