Synopsis
Martin Sheen narrates this report on the Three Gorges Dam, which the Chinese government plans to build on the Yangtse River, and its potential environmental, economic, social and cultural effects on the Three Gorges region. Among them: the displacement of some 1.5-million area residents, the threat to wildlife, and the loss of ancient temples and archaeological sites. The government wants to build the dam to generate hydroelectric power and control flooding.
