This is an outstanding debut from director Richard Dutcher, who also wrote and co-starred in the film. The fictional story follows the life-changing first few weeks of a young man's two-year mission on behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Angeles, CA. He is paired with a sharp but spiritually sensitive companion who proves to be a challenging mentor. The storytelling and acting are rock solid and provide a good sense of life as a missionary, from the constant rejection of people slamming doors to the lighter moments with companions. Miriam Cutler of Oingo Boingo fame provided the soundtrack, along with Greg Simpson and Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband.
