Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Pickpocket Nellie Proctor (Jewel Carmen) steals a rich man's wallet while on a steamer headed for San Francisco. Her theft is detected so she throws the wallet under the nearest chair. James Blair (L.C. Shumway) happens to be sitting there so he is accused of the crime and sentenced to prison when the boat arrives at its destination. Nellie tells her boss, and surrogate father, Milligan (Charles Elder), about Blair and they effect his escape. Just then, the crook's lair is discovered, so all of them -- including Blair -- are forced to flee to the Alaskan gold country. The town sheriff, McKenzie (G. Raymond Nye) hears of Blair's escape and finds Nellie. He offers to let Blair go, providing she "pay the price." Distasteful as this is, she agrees, but some children she is taking care of go to Blair. He comes just in time to kill the sheriff and save Nellie. Even though he has viewed Nellie scornfully throughout most of the picture, he now professes his love for her and they end up in the usual cinematic clinch.
