Although Rory (Alexis Bledel) has warmed up to the fact that her English teacher Max (Scott Cohen) is dating her mom, Lorelai (Lauren Graham), Lorelai herself is having second thoughts about starting a new romantic relationship. In fact, she is on the verge of breaking up with Max and intends to tell him so during Parent's Day at Chilton. This situation leads to a malicious gossip campaign instigated by Rory's prep-school rival, Paris (Liza Weil) -- who, upset over her own parents' highly publicized divorce, has determined that if she can't be happy, no one can be happy.
