Synopsis by Sally Barber
Gift of the Whales is a contemporary fable which successfully blends educational goals with quality entertainment which earned it the Parent's Choice Award Golden Apple. Filmed in a small village along the Pacific coast, an 11-year-old Native American boy relates stories told to him by his ancestors. In this manner, the film presents traditional Native American philosophies along with recent scientific findings to encourage a greater appreciation for marine mammals. It includes never-before-seen footage of whales and spectacular views of the area's unspoiled scenery. Gift of the Whales is recommended for children ages 7 to 15.
