Synopsis by Sandra Brennan

Entirely comprised of black-and-white archival footage, this documentary takes viewers inside the Mussolini regime to paint a fascinating portrait of the fascist leader's once-beloved son-in-law Galeazzo Ciano, a former Vatican secretary. Following his marriage to Edda Mussolini, Ciano rose quickly through the fascist ranks to become Italy's foreign minister in 1936. His downfall came when Ciano vocalized his growing apprehension over Hitler and the Nazi party, even going so far as to suggest that Italy start a war against Germany. In 1943, after Mussolini learned that Ciano had been allegedly sneaking Italian Jews out of the country and that his minister was on one of Hitler's black lists, Ciano was executed before a firing squad.
