synopsis
Arthur C. Clarke hosts this look at the beautiful, artistic patterns that can be created using Benoit Mandelbrot's mathematical formulas. Viewers are introduced to the life and work of Benoit Mandelbrot, as well as to some sample images created by plotting the Mandelbrot set on a complex number plane after the iterated equation has been completed. Those familiar with fractals know that many resemble solar eclipses and other brightly illuminated images.
