Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Frank Peppiatt and John Aylesworth, the Canadian production team who later struck gold with the American series Hee Haw, were among the instigators of the CBC game show Flashback (Syd Wayne was another of the series' creators). In the tradition of Front Page Challenge, a panel of four celebrities had to correctly identify people or events that had made headlines. But unlike the earlier series, the panelists had to make their guesses based on headlines of the past -- often many, many decades in the past. Each episode included a "mystery" guest, who had been chosen on his or her nostalgia value, while the viewers at home were invited to submit their own questions, in hopes of winning great sums of money for stumping the "experts." A popular Sunday-night CBC fixture, Flashback was telecast from September 23, 1962 to June 16, 1968.
