synopsis
After a year's absence from the screen, Rupert Julian put all his talents into play -- he portrays both of the main characters in this rich man/poor man tale in addition to directing. Richard Olwell (Julian) is wealthy, a drunk, and mean to his wife (Jane Novak). Richard Hatton (Julian again) is a hard-working tramp printer who Olwell refuses to pay. In a fight between Hatton, Hatton's friend, and Olwell, the rich man dies in a fall, and with a switch of clothing, Hatton takes over the rich man's identity. His guilty conscience always has him on the verge of coming clean; meanwhile Olwell's wife is falling in love with him. Julian overplayed, as was his bent, but somehow it seemed to work for this film.
