Synopsis by Hal Erickson

No fewer than two film versions of Goethe's Faust came to the screen during 1964. The first, made in Germany, adhered strictly to the original text. This American version updates the venerable fable of a man who makes a deal with the Devil in order to possess all the world's knowledge. Our Faust is not an elderly scholar but a young stage magician (Robert Towner), while Mephistopholes materializes in the form of a sinister psychiatrist (Roban Cody). Faust is nothing if not ambitious; it's unfortunate that the unknown actors weren't quite up to the concept.
