Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In this highly personal documentary, the director tries to make sense of his relationship with his father, whose life as a career officer in the Canadian Navy in the 1970s is shown, along with the son's recollections of that time and his experiences with his father. However, at the time the film is being made, his father is losing his memory and is fading fast in a retirement home. The director goes on to mull over the relationships between men and their fathers, interviewing a number of other men, well-known and otherwise, including one interview in which a construction worker speaks about his reluctance to hug his son. One thing seems true for all of them: men with sons of their own never quite overcome their sense of being sons themselves.
