Synopsis by Dan DiSciulo
For this autobiographical essay film, director Rithy Panh returns to a familiar subject matter as he once again trains his eye on the horrors perpetrated in the late 1970s by Cambodia's Khmer Rouge. However, unlike the Oscar-nominated documentary The Missing Picture, for Exile Panh utilizes a more abstract approach to share his traumatic experiences living in Democratic Kampuchea, the nightmarish nation ruled by totalitarian dictator Pol Pot.
