This melodrama was a laughable attempt by Universal Studios to come up with a vamp film. Their misstep began with their choice of actress, as Elsie Jane Wilson made a poor vamp. And the story was no help whatsoever: Wilson, as Ernestine Bergot, starts her evil career by befriending an elderly writer, then pushing him out the window. This nets her a bit of money and eventually she works her way up to old Count Ville Handry (Rupert Julian, who also directed this unfortunate production). She so entices the count that he turns his back and fortune on his daughter Henriette (Francelia Billington) and her fiancé Daniel Champcey (Hobart Henley). Henriette is spirited away to a bad section of Paris, but finally Daniel and another victim of Ernestine's locate her and foil the vamp's wicked games. Ernestine takes poison, leaving everyone else to be happy.
