Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
This Taiwanese docu-drama chronicles the tumultuous 20th-century political history of the tiny island of Kinmen, which was often a sort of geographical pawn in the struggles between the capitalistic KMT and Communist China. Between 1953 and 1973 the Communists shelled the island every odd-numbered day after the US re-established ties with Peking. The drama part centers on a young man who remembers growing up on the battered little island.
