synopsis
In the fight against the Japanese, the secret heroism of Gen. Chang Tzu-chung (Ko Chung-hsing) cannot be revealed, even when his beloved daughter Chang Lien-yun (Cheng Cheng) scolds him for having betrayed his promise to fight the Japanese to the death. The general's present-day life is contrasted with scenes depicting his heroic battles against the Japanese. His equally patriotic wife (Chen Sha-li) is tarred with the same erroneous brush, and she shares his secret satisfaction in the accomplishment of their duties.
