Set far in the northwestern Argentine province of Salta, in the Andes mountains, this story is about a man with a wife and son, who shovels sand from a riverbed for a living in spite of his wife's protestations that better, more steady work nearer to home would be best for all of them. His independent spirit carries the day, but too slowly for most viewers.
