Seattle's International District opens its doors to curious filmmaker Maria Gargiulo in East of Occidental. The only urban area in the United States settled by Chinese, Japanese, and Filipinos, the District has a rich and interesting history. It was built over a waste site and since become a happening and vibrant community. Residents of the neighborhoods tell why is has such a unique personality. In the beginning, the area was a refuge for displaced groups. As the city's prosperity grew so did the diversity of the District. It now stands as a testament to the similarities between ethnic groups that simply desire a home. Young urbanites give final testimony describing the continued attraction of such a strong and assorted population.
