Synopsis by Mark Deming

Six people look back on their lives as they go through its final chapters in this documentary from filmmaker Serge Giguere. Driven By Dreams profiles six senior citizens from Quebec, ages between 72 and 94 years, as they go about the business of their day-to-day existence. Giguere's subjects include a dealer in antique furniture, a nun who gives music lessons, an employee at an animal sanctuary who also flies remote control airplanes, an amateur musician who plays in a jazz band, a woodcutter who still clears brush with his son, and an artist. While they all lead active and productive lives, the subjects are also well aware of their advancing years and the fact they aren't likely to be around for many years longer, and they discuss their mortality with a mixture of realism and good humor while also evaluating the ups and downs of the lives they've led. Driven By Dreams was honored as Best Documentary at the 2007 Jutra Awards, which honor excellence in Quebecois filmmaking.
