Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

A liberal, Brisbane-born puppeteer falls for a Pakistani Muslim from a strict religious background, only to discover that true love can present an unusual series of challenges in this documentary from filmmaker Faramarz K-Rahber. It was the late 1990s, and an Australian puppeteer Brian was attending a festival in Lahore, Pakistan. Over the course of the next ten days, the goth-enamored string-puller entered into a tenuous romance with a seventeen year-old Muslim girl named Amber. But as it turns out, this romance wasn't so fleeting after all. Despite the fact that Amber was ten years younger than Brian, the worldly puppeteer simply could not get Amber out of his mind after traveling back to Brisbane, and eventually converted to Islam in hopes of seeking her hand in marriage. Two years later, Brian had adapted the Muslim name Aamir and saved up enough money to return to Lahore. His mission was to ask Amber's parents for permission to marry their daughter. Though everyone involved seemed open and accepting of the idea, a convoluted series of miscommunications and cultural hurdles soon threatened to derail the union that Brian once seemed to believe was his true destiny.
