Injustices against Turkish women are brought to light in this documentary from filmmaker Melek Ulagay Taylan. In Turkey, it's distressingly common for women to be beaten or killed by members of their own families for actions that bring about perceived "dishonor," and until recently the Turkish legal system had been hesitant to do much about these crimes. Taylan investigates several such incidents in Dialogues In The Dark, ranging from Fadime Sahindal, who was shot by her father after she refused an arranged marriage so she could move in with her boyfriend, to Semse Allak, who was stoned to death by her family after she became pregnant following an assault by a rapist. Taylan also looks into recent changes in Turkish law that will dole out more severe punishment for so-called "honor crimes."
