Synopsis by Janiss Garza
This Universal jewel featured Dorothy Phillips in her first picture since her success in The Heart of Humanity. She's Mary Burton, a country girl with two brothers: the ambitious Hamilton (Antrim Short) and the poetic Paul (Tom Ashton). Hamilton dreams of going to the city and making a killing in the financial world. Ten years later, he has done it (and is now played by William Stowell), but his success has turned him into a cold-hearted and cruel man. He forbids Mary's romance with his rival, Jefferson Edwards (Harry Hilliard), and tragedy soon follows him. His parents die and then he himself is killed by one of those he has ruined. But then it's revealed that the whole scenario was just a dream. Hamilton wakes up and listens to Mary's sage advice. He decides to put his energy into serving mankind instead of crushing it.
