Daughter of the Tong (1939)
by Hans J. Wollstein review

Irredeemably bad in almost all aspects, Daughter of the Tong is made somewhat palatable by silent star Evelyn Brent, who had played this kind of character many times before. The husky-voiced actress had been a favorite of director Josef von Sternberg way back in the late '20s but the years had been kind to her and she still looks stunning. Unfortunately, photography, direction, story line, and supporting cast -- which includes the husband-and-wife team of Dave O'Brien and Dorothy Short -- are below par even for this kind of thing, making the viewing of Daughter of the Tong something of a chore at times.
