synopsis
One of the better biographical documentaries detailing the rise and fall of Hitler, this study by noted documentary director and film critic Paul Rotha first supplies needed background on the rise of Nazism in Germany before looking at Hitler's life. Using old German newsreels and archival footage, movies and shorts, Rotha not only looks at how Nazis took over Germany, but what happened during World War II as well. Then Hitler's early life is reviewed. Scenes of his later meetings with the two Axis dictators, Franco and Mussolini, as well as other war-related events, are new material, viewed here for the first time. Cogent and easy to follow, Rotha succeeds at making his subject matter as clear as anyone can.
